Searching the Taxsutra Library

Search is the heart of any database product. And Google has spoilt us all by raising the bar impossibly high.
We have lavished significant effort to make our search listings (i) quick, (ii) relevant, (iii) non-repetitive, (iv) as informative as possible to enable you to decide whether the item listed is what you are looking for or not.
We noticed that there are two kinds of searchers:
(A) Those who know what they are looking for, and want to sero in and read that topic as fast as possible, and
(B) Those who want to browse a few results thrown up out of a list that the algorithm thinks are most relevant to the searcher. The aim is to be able to find what you want in the first 4-5 items listed.
We have devised a “Book Search” tool for the persons in category (A) and a “Library Search” tool for scouring our entire database.

BOOK SEARCH

This is a search facility that allows you to search only within the currently open “Book”, i.e., - say, you have the Income Tax Act, 1961 open, and you want to jump straight to Section 115JA. Simply type s.115JA in the Book Search bar, and press Enter, and before you say, Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman, you’ve reached the section!
Book Search allows quick navigation by eliminating unnecessary clicks sometimes necessitated by a hierarchical search –Act, Part, Chapter, and then Section (or even sometimes) a Clause.
The Book Search bar is in the Left Hand Side panel just below the current topic title and above the first topic listing. Click on the information ⓘ button to the right next to the book search bar to enable a smarter search. and get efficient results. nr Remember, Book Search is not a full-text search. It only searches the text of the topic titles (text of topics displayed in the left hand panel) within the currently selected Book. Topic Titles are abbreviated versions of the Headings you can see in the first two paragraphs of any topic in the Taxsutra Library. However, this has its uses: this search works best if you know what you are looking for.

LIBRARY-WIDE SEARCH

The Library Search is Taxsutra Library’s advanced search facility. It can be accessed by clicking on the magnifying glass symbol you can see in the frame at the top of every screen in the Library.
By default, this search searches the entire Library. You can adjust the scope of your search by either checking the title of the Book(s) you want to search in, or go the reverse way – select all books, and then (in the search listing page(s), in the Right Hand Panel), narrow down the scope of your search and select the books you want to search in, by unchecking all books you don’t wish to search.
This search facility searches the entire text of the library for any word, section or phrase in all Books you have chosen to search in, simultaneously. In the RH panel you can select or unselect the Books in which you want to search for the term.
Click-to-Pick TM in the LH Panel of the Full-text Library-wide Search listing allows you to narrow down and customise (narrow down) your search listing by selecting one or more items from among the top 50 results.
